Tiger and Ox – The Journey Of Bruno Sensei
1h 35m
Karate master Bruno Koller does not want to let his Alzheimer’s disease diagnosis stop him. Filmmaker Fabian Biasio follows the headstrong fighter and his family with his camera for eight years.
Bruno Koller is one of the most respected karate instructors outside of Japan. Shortly before he turns sixty, his physician tells him: «Mr Koller, you have dementia.» A man strong as an ox is beginning to falter.
But despite his dwindling resources, Koller is determined to continue on the path of karate. Nevertheless, Bruno and his environment are reaching their limits. A man used to giving commands now has to learn to accept help.
The documentary «Tiger and Ox» tells Koller’s story. Born in Appenzell and a plumber by profession, he travels to Japan with his wife and baby when he is 26 to learn from the best. He is internationally acclaimed and becomes a living legend as a karate teacher in Lucerne. He dedicates his life to fighting. Suddenly he is confronted with a completely unexpected opponent, or maybe also a teacher: Alzheimer’s dementia.
